Cough 055 - [Video]

[A figure of white is seen laying down on his stomach next to a pond. The haori is clearly seen, though what number on the back is hard to make out, but the white hair is a dead giveaway. However, Ukitake's hair is fluffier than normal, and there is a pair of white, round ears peeking out from his hair on top of his head. The tip of his nose is black in contrast, though, as he looks almost longingly into the water at his new reflection.]

...I know I shouldn't, but I really have this urge to go swimming.

[He dips one of his hands (still human, mind you) into the water and splashes some away from him, looking up to follow the ripples the action creates. Ukitake smiles at the sight.]

Still a little cold. Spring should be here soon, though.

[The sad thing is, he'd do it, too.]

[Well then, he better get his butt in gear and come find this pond you're laying by.]

[It's where it's always been, in the front yard of his house.]

[Yeah, well, getting there takes a while, considering he keep ducking behind bushes and trying to hide his sudden transformation from everyone who walks by.]

[He'll be in the same spot, lazily watching the water. It's calming and the concentration on something so simple helps keep any complicated thoughts at bay.]

[It's a good hiding spot, which is probably why soon enough, Riku was dropping down across the pond from Ukitake, flopping onto his stomach and hiding his face in his arms.]

This really sucks.

[Ukitake doesn't laugh, just watches Riku.]

That depends on how you view it.

[He only turns his head at the other's words, now brown eyes peaking out from the shadows his folded arms create.]

What do you mean?

You could view this as a bother, something to be embarrassed over for a week. But then it would be a week wasted. Or you could take this chance to view the world differently, seeing things through different eyes. Pun not intended.

This really doesn't bother you at all, does it?

I have been through too many negative experiences to let a simple appearance alteration dictate my life.

[He raises an eyebrow, waiting for an explanation.]

They can just... do whatever they want to us. And there's nothing we can do to stop it.

...Yes. It is quite disconcerting.

[He chuckles.]
