Cough 021 - [Video Post]

[The feed opens with the sight of Ukitake coughing into his free hand. Luckily, no blood can be spottted. Yet.]

Ungh...my apologies. Even with the weather clearing up, it seems that it has finally caught up with me. [Cough.] It's what I get for traipsing about in the snow.

[He tucks himself into bed, propped up on pillows again. This is a normal pose for the Shinigami, as friends have and will come to know. Sniffling, he speaks again.]

I should be back to myself within a week or tw--

[There must have been a tickle in his throat because he's coughing violently now, red visible through the cracks of his fingers before the feed ends.]

[He sighs lightly, trying not to disturb his lungs too much. So he decides to describe things in more detail so Leon won't be in the dark.]

Remember when I told you about my illness? This is it. When I get an attack, I cough a lot, and most of the time I cough up blood, as well. Some attacks are worse than others, but if I can remain conscious through it, I consider it one of the better ones.

I appreciate the heads up, but it won't stop me from being concerned, even if you ended up doing this every day.

[Oh, look, there he goes coughing again.]

[Oh geez, he's fine after a few minutes. Well, as fine as an old geezer with TB can be. No need to rush, Leon.]

[Squall stands before Ukitake's door. He taps lightly, but his tone is worried.]

"Ukitake? It's..Leon. Let me in."

It's open.

[Don't be alarmed when you see Ukitake. Plainly, he looks like he just woke up from a very bad dream and his hair is all disheveled. There also may be some blood on his sheets that escaped past his hand. But don't freak out. This is standard procedure. XD]

[Squall opens the door and closes it behind him. In Uki's room, Squall takes in the disheveled appearance and a few dried blood spots on the sheets.

He's trained himself over the years how not to look alarmed or panicked, but a bit still manages to show through. Still, he tries to make a joke out of it.]

"You look like hell. Where's your keeper?"

[He offers up a weak smile in return.]

I hope not. I've heard Hell has quite an unpleasant appearance.

That would depend on who my keeper is.

[A smile.]

[Another glance around the room.]

I'm not sure who it is, but they're slacking, whoever they are.

It's a good thing you've shown up then, ne?

[Leon fixes Ukitake with a half glare.]

Well if your keeper doesn't pick up the pace, I'm going to drag you to my house so someone can look after you properly.

Yare, yare, relax. Someone is coming along today, but I won't rush them.

[ooc: Derp derp.]

[A sigh.]

Shouldn't you be resting then?

The novelty of being waited on hand and food wears off after a few centuries.

[WHAT?]

[Leon gets a blank look for a few seconds.]

Oh, I always forget to mention this. Shinigami live much longer than humans. I lost count some time around two thousand years for myself...

[Squall mentally slaps himself, but doesn't show anything.]

Over two thousand years old and you still need a keeper. That's interesting.

Perhaps it's my irresistible personality.

[Squall laughs, and when he can talk, the laughter is still in his tone.]

That must be it.

[He's never heard Leon laugh before, but he's all smiles because of it. Laughter is such a great sound, espeically if you're the cause. Well, within reason, of course.]

It's the only reason I can come up with as to why they haven't demoted me after taking all those sick days.

[A trace of laughter in his tone.]

It was either that or because they respect you.

[a smile and a more serious tone]

After all, someone who has such a life span should be respected.

Longevity has nothing to do with respect, in my opinion. There are young people in my world who deserve as much respect as me, if not more. Look at Hitsugaya Toushirou. He's the youngest captain in our history, but he still takes on responsibility just as well, if not better, than others who are older than him.

[A nod.]

Maybe that's how it is in your world and I'm not saying that's wrong. But where I'm from longevity does carry entitlement to respect.
